Abstract: The chemical enterprise of today faces a complex, global, and increasingly competitive environment, one with numerous market prospects and fraught with endless uncertainties. All enterprise-level decisions related to project, product as well as process selection, supply chain design and management, manufacturing, and logistics must carefully consider the various opportunities as well as the uncertainties and risk. In this paper, we examine the role that the Process Systems Engineering community can play at this interface of business and engineering. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
