Abstract: In this paper we present an approach to model inhomogeneous brain for surgery applications Detailed anatomy was embedded by using a brain atlas. Inhomogeneous material properties were taken into account. A finite element simulation of gravity-induced brain deformation was performed to investigate the effect of the inhomogeneity on the brain deformation. The results suggest employing an inhomogeneous model with detailed anatomy for more realistic surgery simulation.
