Abstract: In this paper, an approach for investigating vibration characteristics of piezoelectric cylindrical shells under transverse vibration modes is presented. It is an extension of the related work for elastic shells. A formula for estimating transverse frequencies of the piezoelectric cylindrical shells is obtained. Because of its simplicity and clarity, the formula can be used to investigate the influence of electromechanical coupling effect and geometry parameters on the natural frequencies conveniently. © 2001 Academic Press.
