Abstract: In the present paper, a straightforward method of analysis involving Love's first approximation theory and Ritz's procedure is used to study the influence of boundary conditions and fibre orientation on the natural frequencies of thin orthotropic laminated cylindrical shells. The boundary conditions considered in the present paper are clamped/clamped, clamped/simply supported, clamped/sliding and clamped/free. Results are presented on the influence of boundary conditions and fibre orientation on the frequency characteristics and on the fundamental frequencies at different geometric ratios. The present method is also examined by comparing results with those available in the literature. © 1995.
