Abstract: The Cramer-Rao bounds (CRBs) of near field electromagnetic ranging (NFER) are derived for the cases of ranging and 2-D localization. From the derived CRBs, it is shown that the accuracies are dependent on the true location and frequency used, in addition to the signal-to-noise ratio. Ulitizing the derived bound for 2-D localization, the selection of frequency can be made to achieve the best average accuracy in different area sizes. © 2007 IEEE.
