Abstract: Computational fluid dynamic model results of heat transfer for a semi-confined turbulent round impinging jet for temperature dependent thermophysical properties are presented. The RSM turbulence model together with nonequilibriurn wall function was used to predict the heat transfer. Distributions of Nusselt number for a constant target surface temperature for different definitions of Nusselt number are compared. The results show that, for large temperature differences between the jet and the target surface, the local impingement wall Nusselt numbers calculated at jet temperature conditions are similar to those calculated at the film temperature. © 2004 Elsevier Science Ltd.
