Abstract: A new method to reduce the number of multipliers in design of sharp FIR filter by frequency-response masking(FRM) technique is presented. The success of the proposed method is based on a modified FRM approach where one of the subfilters in FRM approach is implemented by prefilter-equalizer technique. We have shown by example that the proposed method yields additional savings of 20% in the number of multipliers compared to the original FRM approach.
