Abstract: We present the results of a statistical analysis on the fuel-consumption characteristics of 115 automobiles. The factors considered are vehicle weight, engine size, cumulative mileage, vehicle age, vehicle maintenance, make of vehicle, fuel brand, travel speed, trip length, travel time per trip, parking time, occupancy level, type of road, and traffic conditions. The data on fuel consumption and these factors were collected from a statistical survey. The survey design and the prediction models established are presented, and the effects of the specified factors are described. We also show the specific patterns of automobile usage and fuel consumption in Singapore. © 1991.
