Abstract: We have studied the fuel-consumption characteristics of 387 buses under actual operating conditions over a 12-month period. We have examined the variations in monthly fuel efficiency among service routes, bus models, and months of the year, as well as the effects of engine overhaul, weather conditions, vehicle speeds, daily mileages, and unladen weights of the vehicles. Our results show that most of these factors are statistically significant. Predictions have been made of the effects of each of the listed factors. © 1991.
