Abstract: In this paper, a theoretical downlink capacity analysis of a SIR based power controlled multi-rate CDMA system employing antenna array is presented. The effect of path decay index and inter-cell interference have been considered in the analysis. Several-fold capacity improvement can be achieved as compared to the conventional single-antenna base station. The total bit rate traffic of such a system is also investigated and shown to be roughly constant for a given set of system parameters.
