Abstract: In a single-phase shaded-pole induction motor, the output power and losses are determined predominantly by several design parameters. Thus the design of the motor can be viewed as an optimization problem, where the output power can be maximized subject to some physical constraints, including the maximum allowable losses. Based on this consideration, the design problem is formulated and solved by NLPQL, which is a recently developed optimization software package.
