Abstract: The Period of 1795-1824 is pivotal in to the development of the colonies and colonial policies of the British and the Dutch in the East Indies . The rivalry played out in the East Indies between England and Holland took place under against the backdrop of Europe engulfed in Napoleonic war, and the political mechinations and comprimises between British and Dutch crowns to contain French power. This study will re-examine the many exchanges in the East Indies between the two colonial powers, both from the perspective of the political imperatives in Europe as well as the way these imperatives were interpreted and/or carried out by their respective colonial agents
