Corrosion of steel in tropical marine atmospheres

Abstract

Exposure (corrosion) results are presented for a mild steel and a medium carbon steel tested at two sites in Singapore (inland and on a raft) with two surface conditions (dry and wet blasted) for each steel. The morphology and composition of each rust film have been examined and the effect of meteorological parameters on corrosion of dry blasted mild steel are discussed. Finally, long-term corrosion data for the dry blasted mild steel at each of the two sites are presented.
