Abstract: The convergence of the growing need for spatial data management with the emergence of XML as a data exchange standard has made XML-based solutions the preferred choice for most modern GIS applications. However, benchmarks for XML-GIS systems and applications do not yet exist. In this paper, we propose GéOO7, a relevant, portable, scalable and simple benchmark for XML-GIS management systems. The dataset of the benchmark follows the schema and characteristics of a real and publicly available dataset. The workload emulates a representative set of GIS spatial operations. Our analysis shows that the GéOO7 benchmark conforms well to benchmark specification criteria. © 2005 IEEE.
