Abstract: In this paper, we present a mobile agent based three-tier protocol to improve the data transmission while accessing distributed databases. When a mobile agent is employed to fulfill a distributed query, it has many choices for traveling in the network. The master/worker pattern can be applied to mobile agents on the basis of the centralized 2PC protocol to allow the parallel execution of mobile agents. In this paper, the three-tier protocol is proposed, which clusters all the worker agents to strengthen the parallelism. By adopting the three-tier protocol, it can significantly weaken the bottleneck of data transmission and reduce the response time. This paper describes the three-tier protocol and the performance evaluation about it.
