Abstract: Magnesium composites containing Al particles along with composite Al-CNT/Al2O3 nano-particles were synthesized, here, through powder metallurgy route using microwave assisted rapid sintering technique followed by hot extrusion. It was, remarkably, revealed that ball milling might be a suitable route to prepare composite nano-particles which subsequently could be embedded within the Mg matrix. It was, likewise, witnessed that Mg composites reinforced with composite particles (hereafter are referred as hierarchical composites) revealed much better overall mechanical response compared to their counterparts reinforced just with as received nano-particles. The newly developed composites have been investigated broadly via different characterization methods to realize the role of composite particles on enhancing and tailoring the mechanical response and microstructure of pure Mg, respectively. Furthermore, the available microstructural degrees of freedoms exited in composite nano-particles have been investigated carefully, to improve the mechanical response of hierarchical composites, further.
