Abstract: The thesis has three pieces of works that focus on making wireless mobile devices energy efficient. 1) An efficient backlight-controlling algorithm that uses tone-mapping techniques intelligently for luminance scaling to save up to 60% of LCD display energy. 2) A cloud based service that transforms the colours of the web contents (texts, background, images ?..) to energy efficient colors while preserving brand identity, colour harmonicity, legibility and fidelity of images by exploiting the characteristics of human visual system. Up to 60% of OLED display energy can be saved. 3) A suite of game state prediction algorithms for power conservation at wireless interface level without compromising the quality of the game play. The algorithms are based on distance and visibility between the game players to save up to 57% of wireless interface energy. A method to select a suitable algorithm depending on the game map type and player density is presented.
