Abstract: The focus of this work is to create photo-realistic facade textures using oblique view photography for building models in a virtual city model environment. Building models are extracted using remote sensing means and can provide accurate data on the building shape and height. At the same time, building facades are lacking in details due to sensor limitations and this can be overcome by texturing the facades with terrestrial photographs. An Improved Reverse Projection Texture Mapping (IRPTM) tecnique was implemented in an interactive program called Graffiti to process the terrestrial photographs and extract facade textures. IRPTM involves the recovery of the image acquisition parameters, automatic extraction of facade textures, geometric correction of distorted facade textures and colour balancing of the final facade texture composition. In this thesis, experimental results will show that IRPTM is a better technique in terms of workflow and speed as compared to current methods.
