Abstract: This research work consists of several projects:It has studied the growth behavior of TiO2 nanoparticles on the substrate of I?-MoO3 nanorods under various conditions. It was found that the formation of I?-MoO3 nanorods cum growth of TiO2 nanocrystals process resulted epitaxial growth of TiO2 nanocrystals on I?-MoO3 nanorods, and anatase TiO2 nanocrystals preferentially grow on both ends of the nanorods. Utilizing this unique growth behavior, more complex I?-MoO3 nanostructures have been fabricated with TiO2 nanocrystals on both ends as capping agent. On the other hand, the as-formed itself can act as a template to produce shaped TiO2 nanocrystals. Cube-like, horseshoe-like and rod-like TiO2 nanocrystals can be obtained after dissolving I?-MoO3 in basic medium. NiMoO4O?nH2O and CoMoO4O?nH2O Nanorods have also been synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, and their thermal dehydration processes have been studied.It also investigated several synthetic routes for synthesis of sub-microspheres of MoS2. Research work was also extended to synthesis of nanostructured tungsten oxides. A simple inorganic route has been successfully developed for large scale synthesis of monodispersed W18O49 nanorods with dimensional control in the quantum confinement regime.
