Abstract: In this thesis, QoS performances at the packet level of the network layer are investigated in the uplink of a Wideband CDMA system. Our analytical work addresses the QoS provisioning for voice, video, web-browsing and data services. These classes differ in their traffic models and QoS requirements. Since voice/video and web-browsing/data are considered as real-time and non-real-time services, respectively, they are treated differently during their transmissions. The QoS performances in the data link layer, such as outage probabilities, are firstly analyzed for each class. Then, the packet level QoS attributes, such as the packet loss rates and average delays, in the network layer are further studied for each class based on the outage probabilities. Finally, a QoS-based call admission control (CAC) scheme is presented. This CAC scheme can maximize the system capacity efficiently, while satisfy the packet level QoS requirements for all admitted mobile users.
