Abstract: Fu or Rhyme-Prose is a literary genre that has been used by the literati for the composition of satirical works in response to the specific social conditions that these writers live in, with intentions of either airing their personal grouses and grievances or attacking fiercely at specific social and political systems via humour, wit or comedy. While satirical works written in the Rhyme-Prose form have existed since the early development of this literary genre, scholars have noted that the Ming period showed a flourish in the composition of satirical rhyme-prose. This research project serves to discuss the possible reasons leading to the phenomena pointed out by the earlier scholars and at the same time, examine the various themes portrayed in these satirical works, the writing techniques and styles employed by these satirists, and the legacy they possibly have inherited from the earlier writers.
