Abstract: This thesis examines the professional socialization and knowledge acquisition process of new doctors and lawyers in Singapore. In doing so, the mediating role of organizational and professional knowledge in helping the newcomers adjust and learn the ropes of their new careers is investigated. More specifically, this study focuses on the effect of dispositional attributes and organizational influences on the knowledge domains, and the subsequent influence of knowledge on the organizational and professional-level adjustment outcomes of the novice doctors and lawyers during their first few months on the job.
