It has always been engaged in a dialectical relationship with tradition and is inseparable from the quest for reality based on artistic autonomy and communicative intersubjectivity. The formation of Chinese literary modernity is based on three fundamental factors: Chinese literary traditions, Chinese historical exigencies, and the introduction of Western culture and literature into China. Thus compared with literary modernity in the West, Chinese literary modernity has a very different nature and landscape. a??May Fourtha?? writers and literary critics are the first generation of literary subjects in the process of Chinese literary modernity, among whom Shen Congwen very unique figure.
