Abstract: AbstractThis thesis discusses a structural damage detection techniques based on analytical method of difference in deflection of healthy and damaged beams. Damage detection for one cracked beams with various boundary conditions and that for two cracks beam with simply supported case are studied. Moreover, two methods for the repaired technique for the damaged beams are also presented. Firstly, the analytical method for cracked Euler-Bernoulli beam and Timoshenko beam using a piezoelectric patch which is used to repair the discontinuity of slope at the crack section is demonstrated. Second, a finite element study of the effectiveness of carrying out repair is discussed. The FE study models using two concentrated moments of same magnitude and opposite directions applied on either sides of the crack. For all cases, the crack is modeled as an equivalent rotational spring.
