Mobility management in next generation networks. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Mobility management, which includes location management and handover management, is a significant aspect of mobile wireless networks for enabling mobile nodes to maintain communication sessions while moving. Considering the various services for mobile nodes including real-time multimedia applications, to achieve a seamless handover is a stringent issue to address. This thesis proposes mobility management schemes in two scenarios: 1) mobility management in an IP/MPLS based HMIPv6 network. By using Layer 2 triggers to reduce movement detection latency and taking advantage of HMIPv6 to reduce binding update delay, the handover performance can be enhanced. 2) Mobility management in a hybrid network. By integrates HMIPv6 and AODV routing protocol, mobile nodes multiple hops away from Internet gateway can get a continuous Internet connectivity. A multi-hop handover scheme is designed and approaches to reduce handover latency are proposed. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/14714 |
