Abstract: Recent studies have suggested that grit should be operationalised as three dimensions (perseverance of effort, consistency of interest and adaptability to situations) instead of two dimensions (perseverance of effort and consistency of interests) in collectivistic cultures. The present study compares the two factor and three factor model of grit in order to see which model of grit would be the most appropriate in the collectivistic culture of Singapore. Our results support three factor model of grit over the two factor model of grit in Singapore. The Triarchic Model of Grit Scale (TMGS) which measures the three factor model of grit, was also validated in this study. Future studies can now be more certain of the applicability of the three factor model of grit in collectivistic contexts.
