Abstract: In line with the underground master planning by URA to strategically optimise the surface land use of Singapore, geology and geo-engineering evaluations were conducted based on outcrops and 29 numbers of deep boreholes covering an area in Jurong West, Gali Batu through Pioneer, and Tengah to Choa Chu Kang (hereinafter Area B). Through the assessments, the geology and geo-engineering properties of Area B are characterised and translated into four thematic layers known as Rock Mass Classification thematic layer, Engineering Rock Head thematic layer, Geology Conditions thematic layer and lastly Land ownership thematic layer. By interdigitating these thematic layers into a composite map, the potential of underground rock cavern creation in Area B is assessed and indicated in a Cavern Capacity Map. This info-graphic method, can be understood and used by planner or policy makers effortlessly in their strategic planning on underground cavern development.
