Abstract: Despite the high failure rate of Enterprise Systems (ES) projects (Sarker & Lee, 2003), ES surprisingly remain an under-researched area in IS (Rosemann & Watson, 2002). In particular, the study of the stakeholders of ES projects has been under-explored in IS practice (Papazafeiropoulou et al., 2002), despite the involvement of numerous stakeholders from within and without the organization during ES projects. This study proposes Stakeholder Theory as a lens for analyzing the stakeholders of ES projects. This study begins with a literature review of ES and Stakeholder Theory, followed by a case study of the first two phases of a universitya??s ERP implementation. From there, this study presents several findings with respect to stakeholder identification, stakeholder prioritization, and stakeholder management, followed by several future areas of research. Consequently, this study hopes to contribute towards bridging this gap in the understanding of the stakeholders of ES projects.
