Abstract: The spectral (UV-visible absorption and photoluminescence) and thermal spectral stability of seven fluorene-based blue light-emitting polymers in film states were studied. The polymers are different in side chain and backbone structure. The aggregation behavior of five poly(9,9-dihexylfluorene) derivatives in chloroform/methanol mixed solutions was also studied by measuring their UV-visible absorption and photoluminescence spectra. The influence of electron acceptors such as cyano groups and donors such as methoxy and amino groups on the geometric and electronic properties of poly(9,9-dihexylfluorene-1,4-phenylene) unit cell were investigated theoretically using semi-empirical method. The trends derived from quantum chemistry calculations fully represent of the properties observed at the scale of long polymer chains.
