Abstract: The thesis explores the implementation and performance of the 3D-Color Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees (3D-CSPIHT) scheme in the context of 3D wavelet based video coding. The 3D-CSPIHT exploits the correlation between temporal and spatial wavelet coefficients and the inter-dependency between luminance and chrominance components in 3D wavelet coding for color video coding. Hierarchical Variable Size Block Matching (HVSBM) motion estimation techniques are also integrated with the 3D-CSPIHT. The performance of the 3D-CSPIHT video coding is compared and sometimes better against that of the 3D-SPIHT. In particular, the 3D-CSPIHT gives consistently better PSNR performance as compared to 3D-CSPIHT in the luminance component. The 3D-CSPIHT video coder is a simple and yet competent coding scheme generally.
