Abstract: Aim: To evaluate factors associated with hospital readmission for COPD exacerbation and poor quality of life (QOL). Method: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 186 COPD patients in two hospitals. Clinical, spirometric and patient care characteristics, the St. George QOL scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) Scale were administered immediately prior to hospital discharge and at one-month post discharge. Results: Long duration of COPD (> 5yrs), lower FEV1% ( =2), lower FEV1%, severe dyspnea and depression were significantly related to worse St. George QOL (SGQOL) scores. Conclusion: Readmission for COPD exacerbation and poor quality of life were associated with disease severity, psychosocial and health care factors.
