Abstract: In this study, three types of yttrium-based adsorbents including hydrated yttrium oxide, yttrium-manganese binary composite and yttrium based magnetic particles and a flat-sheet membrane named as yttrium/polyvinyl alcohol coated polysulfone-polyacrylic acid membrane were synthesized. The physical and chemical properties of the above-mentioned materials were investigated by a series of the analytical methods such as SEM, EDX, TGA, FTIR, XPS and pure water flux. The adsorption performance of particulate adsorbents was investigated batch experiments including kinetics, ph effect, isotherm and competitive effect. The membrane was further evaluated by filtration experiment. The adsorption mechanism was induced according to the results of batch experiments, theoretical modeling and spectroscopy study.
