Abstract: A series of porphyrinatoindium derivatives (Por)InX (X = H, SCN, SPh, SPh(p-Me) has been synthesized from (Por)InCl. Compound TPPInH is the first porphyrinatoindium hydride complex discovered and it exhibits interesting reactivity with both organic and inorganic reagents. Reactions of TPPInH with aryl alkene and manganese carbonyl complexes give rise to the porphyrinatoindiums containing In-C and In-Mn bonds respectively. These kinds of reactions may be of importance as convenient methods for In-C and In-Metal bonds formation. From synthesis and reactivity studies in this thesis, ten (10) new compounds have been obtained and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (1H, 31P NMR, IR, UV-vis MS). Two structures have also been established by X-ray crystallography. The optical limiting properties of the porphyrinatoindium complexes containing In-S bonds have also been studied. All the investigated complexes show good optical limiting performances, which are influenced by the axial substituents.
