Title: | SPECTRUM-SLICED INCOHERENT LIGHT SOURCE FOR OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS | Authors: | HU QIKAI | Keywords: | Incoherent light, spectrum slicing, passive optical networks, semiconductor optical amplifier, wavelength division multiplexing, | Issue Date: | 11-Aug-2016 | Citation: | HU QIKAI (2016-08-11). SPECTRUM-SLICED INCOHERENT LIGHT SOURCE FOR OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The spectrum-sliced incoherent light (SSIL) source has long been recognized as a promising solution for the light source of WDM-PON. However, the widespread deployment of such light source has been hindered mainly by the inherent significant intensity noise of SSIL. In this thesis, the optimum linewidth of the SSIL is first investigated. The optimum optical linewidth of the SSIL should be able to obtain the most efficient EIN suppression, the highest bandwidth efficiency, strong tolerance to the in-band crosstalk, and reasonable power consumption. Then, a novel technique has been investigated to reduce the EIN of SSIL for the transmission at the rate higher than 10 Gb/s/channel. Finally, the available performance and the limitations of the WDM-PONs using SSIL sources have been experimentally analyzed. Through the experiments, this thesis could investigate the highest available capacity as well as the limitations in the WDM-PONs using SSIL sources. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/134443 |
