Abstract: Spontaneous rupture of the stomach in the newborn occurs only very infrequently. It is more common in the neonatal period. Because it is usually not suspected, diagnosis is often made at autopsy. The high mortality rate is a reflection of the difficulty of making an early diagnosis. In the present paper four cases of spontaneous rupture of the stomach observed at the Kandang Kerbau Hospital from 1972 to 1977 are reported.
