Abstract: The plasma transferrin, measured by radial immunodiffusion, increases during pregnancy. It falls to below non pregnant levels during the puerperium. Prophylactic iron therapy during pregnancy was able to maintain a satisfactory level of Hb, PCV and plasma iron but was unable to abolish the rise in plasma iron binding capacity.
