Abstract: The association between congenital intestinal obstruction and neonatal jaundice is well recognized. As all of the cited reports were made before the advent of phototherapy, the effect of such treatment on affected infants has yet to be documented. Our experience with phototherapy in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia associated with intestinal obstruction might therefore provide useful information, especially in view of recent evidence implicating photoisomerization as the main process responsible for the effectiveness of phototherapy.
