ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The solar thermal desiccant cooling system was numerically investigated forapplication in the Asia-Pacific Region (East Asia and South East Asia). The system wasmodeled in transient system simulation program and applied in the hypothetical officebuilding. The typical meteorological year was used as the basis for the climaticconditions. The system was applied in the sixteen cities covering the temperate areas(China, Korea and Japan), sub-temperate/sub-tropical areas (Taiwan and Hong Kong) andtropical areas (Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia,Singapore, Indonesia, Timor and New Guinea). Based on the numerical calculationsduring the hottest summer season, the results showed the applicability of the system inAsia-Pacific Region different weather conditions. The system needed high air flow ratesfor tropical areas compared to temperate areas to maintain indoor air temperature andhumidity content. The required flat plate collector area was bigger in the tropical areascompared to temperate areas. In general, the system is applicable under varying climaticconditions of the Asia-Pacific Region with flat plate collector sizes and air flow ratesdependent on different climatic conditions (temperate, sub-tropical/sub-temperate andtropical). © 2011 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
