Abstract: Majority of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have to be treated with chronic dialysis. Dialysis can cause deficits in patients? quality of life and great economic burden. In Singapore, two types of dialysis are available, haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD). However, it is not known which treatment would be more cost-effective and represent better value for money for Singaporean dialysis patients. Therefore, this research project aimed to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of different dialysis treatments. Firstly, several quality of life instruments were validated and compared for dialysis patients. Subsequently, the quality of life, survival outcomes, and cost-effectiveness were compared between patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis and those undergoing haemodialysis.
