ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Radio frequency (RF) signals have been utilized as a vehicle for information transmission. Meanwhile, their carried energy can be used to transfer power wirelessly. Wireless information and power transfer, with the aim to provide energy supply and data access at the same time, has recently drawn significant interests. This thesis pursues a unified study on wireless information and power transfer, by investigating two main models for applications, namely, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) using the same RF signals, as well as wireless powered communications (WPC) via RF energy harvesting. First, we propose practical receiver designs, and analyze their various rate-energy trade-offs for SWIPT. Next, we study SWIPT in a multiuser broadcast channel using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), and design the optimal resource allocation.
