Abstract: BIOSORPTION IS A PROMISING TECHNIQUE THAT IS WIDELY USED TO TREAT DYE-CONTAINING WASTEWATER. BREWER¿S SPENT GRAIN (BSG), A BY-PRODUCT FROM BREWING INDUSTRY, WAS USED AS A BIOSORBENT FOR REMOVAL OF RHODAMINE B (RHB), A BASIC TEXTILE DYE, FROM THE AQUEOUS SOLUTION. THE BIOSORPTION POTENTIAL OF BSG WAS INVESTIGATED IN BOTH BATCH AND CONTINUOUS FIXED BED COLUMN STUDY. DIFFERENT PROCESS PARAMETERS SUCH AS PH, INITIAL DYE CONCENTRATION, BIOSORBENT DOSAGE, CONTACT TIME AND TEMPERATURE WERE OPTIMIZED DURING BATCH EXPERIMENTS. THE DYE UPTAKE WAS FOUND TO BE PH DEPENDENT AND MAXIMUM UPTAKE WAS OBSERVED AT A PH OF 7 FOR RHB. THE REMOVAL EFFICIENCY DECREASED WITH DYE CONCENTRATION, TEMPERATURE AND INCREASED WITH BIOSORBENT DOSAGE AND CONTACT TIME. THE PSEUDO-FIRST-AND SECOND-ORDER KINETIC MODELS WERE ALSO APPLIED TO THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE RHB UPTAKE PROCESS FITTED THE PSEUDO-SECOND-ORDER MODEL. THE EQUILIBRIUM DATA FITTED TO FREUNDLICH ADSORPTION MODEL. FIXED BED STUDY
