Abstract: IN THIS THESIS, THE TEMPERATURE RESPONSE AND HEAT GENERATED IN DIFFERENT SIZES AND GEOMETRIES OF CELLS WERE INVESTIGATED NUMERICALLY AND VALIDATED WITH EXPERIMENTS. NEXT, THE THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF THE BATTERY PACKS USING AIR AND LIQUID COOLING SYSTEM WERE DEVELOPED. COOLING FINS WERE INCORPORATED TO INCREASE THE RATE OF COOLING AND REDUCE THE VARIATION OF CELL TEMPERATURE ACROSS THE BATTERY PACK. THE AIR AND LIQUID COOLING FINS DESIGN ARE OPTIMIZED WITH RESPECT TO TARGET RESPONSES. THEN, PARAMETRIC ANALYSES OF THE COOLING FINS STRUCTURE WERE CONDUCTED AND REGRESSION ANALYSES WERE USED TO CORRELATE THE PARAMETERS OF THE COOLING FINS. LASTLY, INTEGRATION ISSUES OF THE CELLS INTO A BATTERY PACK ARE DISCUSSED FROM VARIOUS POINTS OF VIEW.
