Title: | Connecting leaders in a nonuniform spark gap | Authors: | Larsson, A. | Keywords: | Atmospheric-pressure plasmas dielectric breakdown sparks |
Issue Date: | Nov-2011 | Citation: | Larsson, A. (2011-11). Connecting leaders in a nonuniform spark gap. IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science 39 (11 PART 1) : 2212-2213. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. https://doi.org/10.1109/TPS.2011.2145389 | Abstract: | Still photographs of discharge events reveal a multitude of phenomena, most of them well known, but sometimes, an unexpected phenomenon appears. Here, a photograph where leaders meet midgap in a positive 1-m rod-to-plane electrode configuration subjected to a switching impulse voltage is presented. The appearance of a connecting negative leader originating from the plane electrode was not expected. The positive leader propagating from the rod is inhibited by a large series resistor in the discharge circuit, thereby giving a negative connecting leader time to develop from the plane electrode. © 2006 IEEE. | Source Title: | IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/116274 | ISSN: | 00933813 | DOI: | 10.1109/TPS.2011.2145389 |
