Abstract: We analyze the spatial distribution of the intensity of photoluminescence and its polarization in resonantly pumped semiconductor microcavities. The strong spin anisotropy of polariton-polariton interactions leads to the spontaneous formation of domains with strong circular polarization in real space under a uniformly polarized elliptical pump. These domains can serve as an experimental map of the disorder profile present in the system. © 2009 The American Physical Society.
