Bias in CDMA channel estimates with the use of short spreading sequences

Abstract

When short spreading sequences are employed in CDMA systems, the channel estimates obtained using the correlation based approach are biased. A simple decorrelating estimator is proposed to remove the bias and hence improve parameter performance. Simulation results show that the proposed estimator reduces channel estimation error and improves bit error rate (BER) substantially.
