Abstract:	Singapore plans to provide its people with easy access to national on-line information by the year 2000. This article briefly describes this effort and discusses the research agenda of the Institute of Systems Science (ISS) in supporting this national endeavor. First, the IT2000 project is introduced. The motivation for the government and other parties in the development of the National Information Infrastructure (NII) is outlined, with a strategic framework for coordination of the development of different aspects of the NII. The architectural framework of a prototype system and some research activities are described.
