Health problems of pesticide usage in the Third World

Abstract

Pesticide poisoning presents differently in developed and developing countries. In developed countries acute poisoning is largely contained and concerns by scientists are related to long-term effects and environmental pollution. In developing countries, by contrast, acute poisoning and death as a result of pesticide usage is a major public health problem. Concern is expressed at the export by developed countries to developing countries of pesticides banned or restricted in their country of origin. The primary health care approach is advocated as the basic method of control of pesticide exposure.
