Title: | Potential impacts of climatic change and sea-level rise on the East Asian Seas region | Authors: | Chou, L.M. | Issue Date: | Jan-1992 | Citation: | Chou, L.M. (1992-01). Potential impacts of climatic change and sea-level rise on the East Asian Seas region. Journal of Southeast Asian Earth Sciences 7 (1) : 61-64. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | A mean global atmospheric temperature rise of 1.5°C and a corresponding sea-level rise of 20 cm by the year of 2025 are expected to have a major implications on the East Asian Seas Region. Resources which are currently affected by increase and rapid development particularly of the region's coastal areas will become more vulnerable to the new threats. Loss of low-lying coastal lands, saline intrusion, coastal erosion etc. will reduce valuable land area. Agriculture and forestry will require new management strategies designed to enable them to respond to the changed conditions. Altered oceanographic features and the response natural coastal ecosystems will affect marine productivity. Future research directions are identified to address existing knowledge gaps. © 1992. | Source Title: | Journal of Southeast Asian Earth Sciences | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/106870 | ISSN: | 07439547 |
