Abstract: Fluidized bed coating of particles has found many applications in technology research, one rather distinct one being that seen in pharmaceutical operations. The fundamentals of this technology and the resultant properties of coated particles have been studied, though not over-extensively. The polymeric film is the most important contribution in a coating formulation. Most formulators prefer to use synthetic polymers that have more predictable properties. A number of approaches to the development of coated controlled dosage forms have been adopted. With the multi-purpose fluidized bed equipment that is designed with a modular construction concept, it is possible that each product be coated by the process best suited to the task using the same equipment.
