Abstract: The excitation of angular motion, in particular, the creation of a wave packet in the angular degrees of freedom via short-pulse, off-resonant excitation with respect to rotational transitions, was examined. The key result was that field-free time-dependent orientation for a molecule like LiH can be generated after the turn-off of a state-of-the-art electromagnetic half-cycle pulse.
